Released every two years since 2009, the FEEM Sustainability Index (FEEM SI) is a sustainable development aggregate index that aims to assess worldwide progress in wellbeing. It is comprised of 23 indicators related to economic, social and environmental dimensions. It provides projections of sustainability performances at the national and supranational scales in the near future (the current version up to 2030).

The complex and multi-step framework (indicators’ selection - trends computation – normalisation – aggregation in the composite index) and its forward-looking nature represent the main comparative advantage of FEEM SI with respect to the other available composite indices. In fact, FEEM SI enables scenario analysis, based upon different assumptions of economic, social and environmental drivers, providing ex-ante insights on the effects that different policies could have on sustainability. Its versatility allows the highlighting of hidden tradeoffs or synergies between drivers.
